[BAXT601] William Baxter and his wife had five children born at Bowling and baptised at Bradford as follows:
John (baptised 24th October 1661);
[BAXT611] Robert (baptised 17th June 1664), married 1. Mary, then 2. Ann Pickard, see later;
Grace (baptised 7th April 1666);
Thomas (baptised 2nd August 1668);
Susanna (baptised 18th June 1670).
William died at Bowling (buried at Bradford, St. Peter, 28th February 1672).
[BAXT611] Robert Baxter (born 1664) and his 1st wife Mary had six children, plus 3 still-born, as follows:
[BAXT621] William (born at place unknown, c.1690), see later;
Hannah (born at Bowling, baptised at Bradford, 8th June 1692);
--- (still-born at Bowling, April 1694);
Deborah (born at Tyersal, baptised at Bradford, 31st July 1698), died [at Tyersal] (buried at Bradford, St. Peter, 28th April 1712;
Ann (born at Tyersal, baptised at Bradford, 1st June 1701), possibly married (at Calverley, 17th November 1714) Jeremy Gaunt;
two babies (still-born at Tyersal, January 1703-04 and October 1706).
Mary died at Tyersal (buried at Bradford, St. Peter, 8th November 1706), and Robert afterwards married 2. (at Bradford, 1708) Ann Pickard, by whom he had two further children born at Tyersal:
Mary (baptised at Calverley, 30th July 1709);
Sarah (baptised at Calverley, 31st August 1712, after her father had died), died at Tyersal 1718.
Robert died at Calverley, Moorside, (buried at Bradford, St. Peter, 22nd December 1711) and his last child Sarah was actually born about 8 months later. His 2nd wife Ann died at Tyersal (buried at Bradford, St. Peter, May 1718).
[BAXT621] William Baxter (son of Robert & Mary), (blacksmith) and his wife had six children born at Idle and baptised at Calverley as follows:
William (baptised 11th November 1722), [possibly married (at Bradford, November 1753) Hannah Wood];
John (baptised 12th June 1726), married Ann Child;
Hannah (baptised 14th September 1729);
[BAXT631] Thomas (baptised 15th May 1733), married Elizabeth Firth, see later;
Benjamin (baptised 29th August 1736);
James (baptised 13th September 1741), married Martha Smith.
[BAXT631] Thomas Baxter (born 1733), (clothier) married (at Calverley, 19th June1757) [FIRT632] Elizabeth Firth, witnessed by Thos. Constantine (parish clerk). [No proof has yet been seen that this is the correct Thomas, though it seems the most likely of the three options available, viz: a son of the three brothers, William, John, Thomas.]
Thomas and Elizabeth had (at least) one child born and baptised at Idle as follows:
[BAXT641] Thomas (baptised 15th May 1763), married Betty Galway, see next.
[BAXT641] Thomas Baxter (born 1763), (clothier) married (at Bradford, 3rd August 1785) [GALW642] Betty Galway (born 1765, see GALLAWAY), witnessed by George Stansfield (who had married Betty Baxter at Calverley 16th April 1781) and Samuel Yeadon (parish clerk). They had eleven children as follows:
Hannah (born at Shipley, baptised at Bradford, 25th December 1785), married William Pollard;
John (born at Eccleshill, baptised at Bradford, 22nd April 1787);
Thomas (born at Eccleshill, baptised at Bradford, 11th January 1789), married Susannah Keighley;
[BAXT652] Mary (born at Eccleshill, baptised "Polly" at Bradford, 10th October 1790), married 1. William Lee, see later;
Betty (born at Eccleshill, baptised at Bradford, 2nd June 1793), married Charles Wittam;
James (born at Eccleshill, baptised at Bradford, 5th April 1795), married Mary Armistead;
Sally (born at Eccleshill, baptised at Bradford, 13th August 1797), the baptism entry is of interest. It is recorded in the bishop's transcript but not in the baptism register, both sources evidently having been written at the same time from working notes;
George (born at Eccleshill, baptised at Bradford, 2nd October 1799);
Benjamin (born at Eccleshill, baptised at Bradford, 25th December 1809).
Thomas died (age 54) at Greengates (buried at Calverley, 30th November 1817), and Elizabeth died (age 75, of “old age”) at Idle (12th January 1844, buried at Calverley, 15th January 1844).
[BAXT652] Mary Baxter (born 1790, daughter of Thomas), married 1. (at Bradford, 8th August 1808) a clothier [LEEE651] William Lee (born 1787, see LEE); then 2. (at Bradford, 22nd February 1830) a clothier Charles Longbottom (born 1800).
