FERRIERES

There is dispute over the parentage of Walkelin, who was most probably descended from Walkelin de Ferrieres (see DERBY (FERRIERES) EARLDOM). Versions include he was the son of 1st Earl Robert, or 2nd Earl Robert, or Henry de Ferrieres who in turn could have been the son one of the other brothers of 1st Earl Robert (viz Engenulf or William).

[FER2381] Walkelin (3rd son of Earl Robert (see DERBY (FERRIERES) EARLDOM). He was Seigneur of Ferrieres-Saint-Hilaire and Lord of Oakham, was present at the Siege of Jerusalem (31st December 1189). He married 1. Sybil de Braose (daughter of William de Braose & Bertha, see ABERGAVENNY (BRIOUZE) BARONY); then 2. Goda de Toni (born 1140. daughter of Roger de Toni).

[FER2392] Isabel (born 1172, daughter of Walkelin & Goda) married 1. [MORT459] Roger de Motimer (see WIGMORE (MORTIMER) BARONY); then 2. Piers FitzHerbert (see HERBERT).
