Death of Mr. R. Shepherd

Members of the Pudsey Oddfellows Friendly Society will hear with regret of the death on Saturday morning of Mr. Richard Shepherd, of 34, Glover Street, West Bowling, in his 86th year. For many years he was secretary for the Society and was well known and respected by the members. A native of Stanningley, Mr. Shepherd formerly was employed as spinning overlooker by Messrs. Varley and Sons, of Bradford Road. Sixteen years ago he removed to Bradford where he was employed by Messrs. Sugden and Briggs, of West Bowling, retiring at the age of 70 years. For many years he was the sexton at Pudsey St. Paul's Church. He leaves one son and five daughters, his wife having died 29 years ago. The funeral took place on Wednesday at Pudsey Cemetery, when Revd. J. W. Naisbitt officiated. The coffin, made by Mr. Fletcher Smales, of Richardshaw Lane, was of elm wood with brass fittings.
